Bpost now delivers mail and parcels emission-free in Wavre

Wavre (postal codes 1300 and 1301) has joined the growing network of Belgian cities where Bpost delivers mail and parcels without direct emissions. From now on, all letters and parcels destined for residents in the city centre are delivered exclusively using electric vehicles.

Every day, around twenty Bpost postmen and postwomen travel through the streets of Wavre to deliver letters, newspapers, registered mail and parcels. From now on, these delivery rounds are carried out with zero direct CO₂ emissions, thanks to the use of electric vehicles and an extensive network of nearby pickup points.

Deliveries in Wavre's city centre are now carried out using a fully electrified delivery fleet. They are also supported by a dense network of pickup points, allowing residents to collect their parcels whenever it suits them.

The figures speak for themselves:

  • 20 regular delivery rounds;
  • 20 electric vehicles;
  • an average of 1,500 parcels delivered every day;
  • 10 parcel lockers (Bboxes);
  • 6 Post Offices, Post Points and Parcel Points;
  • 16.5 tonnes of CO₂ emissions avoided every year.

For local residents, this means fewer combustion-engine vehicles on the streets, less noise pollution and urban logistics that are better integrated into their everyday environment.

Proven results in other cities

Wavre joins the growing number of Belgian cities where Bpost has already introduced emissions-free delivery zones (25 Ecozones in total). The results have been significant: on average, CO₂ emissions from delivery operations are reduced by 85%, while the social costs associated with traffic, noise and air pollution decrease by 38%.

By expanding these emissions-free delivery zones, Bpost is supporting the continued growth of parcel volumes while reducing the environmental impact of the last mile, one of the most complex stages of the logistics chain.

An ambition for emissions-free deliveries across Belgium

The rollout in Wavre is part of Bpost's broader transformation of its delivery operations. The company continues to electrify its fleet, expand its network of pickup points and adapt its infrastructure to make its operations increasingly sustainable.

By 2035, Bpost aims to make all of its last-mile deliveries in Belgium emissions-free.
