bpost has taken note of the findings of the investigation by the Belgian Competition Authority (BCA) regarding irregularities in the context of the 2022 tender for the concession of newspaper and magazine distribution in Belgium.
The BCA's findings are fully in line with the results of the internal compliance review conducted by bpost at the time, which led bpost to be the first to report these irregularities to the BCA. Since then, bpost has continuously and actively cooperated with the investigation. Thanks to this cooperation, the BCA has granted bpost a full exemption from fines, in line with our position and with the fact that bpost had not recorded any provision on this file.
Following the results of its internal investigation in 2022, bpost immediately took far-reaching measures. The employees within the company who were involved in or had knowledge of the irregularities, who concealed them, and whose wrongful actions have also been confirmed by the BCA, have no longer been employed by bpost since late 2022.
Furthermore, bnode, the international group above bpost, has invested intensively in increasing knowledge and application of regulations across the entire company. Through targeted initiatives and training, a sustainable culture of compliance has been established. Compliance and legal teams have also been strengthened to ensure these services are more proactively involved in decision-making throughout the organization. These efforts continue purposefully today: bnode remains committed to investing in a strong compliance culture and in supporting the organization, ensuring that compliance remains an integral and permanent part of the way the entire group operates.
